The drive from Anchorage to Kenai is full of special species of the north. The Chugach is home to the Boreal Chickadee and the Bohemian Waxwing. When arriving in Kenai, the heart of the Peninsula, its coastal and riverside areas offer unique birding experiences. The annual shorebird festival in Homer spotlights shorebirds as they migrate north. The largest Maritime Wildlife Refuge in the United States is also in Homer

Throughout the summer, areas of great birding include the Kenai Wildlife Refuge, Bridge Access Road near the mouth of the Kenai River, Homer, Katchemak Bay, Seward, Cook Inlet, Resurrection Bay, Gull Island, and the Barren Islands to name a few. Amateur and professional, full or part time Birders have tremendous access.
